North Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Six students from East Limestone were recognized at the North Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair in Huntsville on March 4.  Marla Smith, Zach Stander, Chase Jackson, and Katie Acklin were awarded honorable mentions for their projects.  Hannah Duke received a fourth place ribbon for a project in plant science, and Maria Torres was awarded second place in the category of microbiology.  All of these students are sophomores in advanced physical science.

On Friday, April 5, Maria participated at the State level in Huntsville.  She was awarded the Alabama Geological Society Award 1st place in the Senior Division.  She received the 1st place award for the Geological Survey of Alabama in the Senior Division.  Maria received a 1st place award from the American Society of Microbiology for the Senior Division.  Her placement in the category of Microbiology was 3rd.   The project was entitled "Don't Waste the Waste."  She developed a method of extracting fuel from microorganisms in the soil.
