James Shannon currently serves as District Five board member for the Limestone County Board of Education. He has served on the board since 2002 and is a member of the Alabama Association of School Boards as well as the National School Board Association.

James first became involved with the Limestone County School District as a bus driver.   He states, “Throughout my years as a school bus driver, I became personally vested in the lives of the children. I saw areas that needed improvement and felt a strong desire to take action."

James retired from Shannon Brother Tile in 1995 after a successful partnership with his three brothers. He continues to be active in his church serving as a deacon for 40 years. He has been married to Barbara Shannon for 50 years and contributes much of his success to her and the support she has given him.
